Morning in Montana

We have our first real snow here in western Montana. The dogs love it — this is Claire and Capella…

The cats have a different approach to winter…

Claire was spayed last week. Even writing those words makes me sad. The Bright Stars are indeed Limited Edition Puppies.

I had already decided not to risk another pregnancy with Claire but I had hoped to finish Claire’s Bronze Grand Championship, which would have required that she be intact. But her false pregnancies are so extreme, pointing to big hormones that are just not good for her.

And so I made the decision that was in her best interest — and she was spayed.

Claire’s life will be rich and full and happy — she will not miss those parts that, even when not pregnant, caused her body to think she was. Claire recently spent weeks not eating her breakfast again, experiencing a false pregnancy that culminated in producing enough milk that she could have nursed real puppies.

Sigh.

Thankfully, I have Capella.

My wonderful and bright consolation from the Universe.

Tracking!

I have been waiting for it to snow so that I could begin tracking with Capella. Yesterday was perfect — a light dusting…

This photo, taken after I laid the track, offers good info about how and why my high school Geometry teacher, Mr. Jones, once said to me, “Ms. Sontag, do you even know what book we are in?”

I thought I was laying a straight track.

Sigh. Good thing the dog is a natural!

Without further ado…

Have a Marvelous Monday!
