Claire, Nails, Facebook

Claire’s surgery went well — she was home by 3 pm and glad about that…

Claire post surgery.jpg

The surgeon said it will likely be 5 - 6 months before Claire is back in in shape for her normal life. I could choose to be morose about how long this is going to take but instead — isn’t it great that we can look forward to a return to normal life for her?

And more good news — swimming is recommended as part of the rehab and Claire LOVES to swim.

Today’s Puppy Tip is a literal one — don’t forget to trim toenails!

Capella close.jpg

You can use human toenail clippers at this age. Smear some peanut butter or cream cheese on a plate or lid — have one person hold that for the puppy while the other person snips. Just clip the area above the pink quick — see Capella’s nail on the inside right for an example of one that needs trimming.

Easy Peasy — and don’t forget the front dewclaws.

Something else — if you are on Facebook and did not yet get an invitation to join the group for Bright Stars and Moonshadows, send me an email or search for it on Facebook. We would love to have everyone join who wants to — including friends of the two litters.

Have a terrific day!

Surgery Day, Specialty Plans

Capella is in good hands (paws) while her mom is having surgery this morning…

Capella is a pretty chill puppy…

She is also smart, attentive, and easy — and if you are going to be at the Specialty in Estes Park — and you are vaccinated — I hope you will help with her socialization.

Yes, after looking at the CDC Guidelines and pondering things, I have decided to attend the Specialty in May. I will have the RV and be very careful — and yes, I will be writing the Newsletter again.

Personally, I would like people to wear buttons announcing their vaccination status but likely that won’t fly — but we can definitely tell each other! I am fully vaccinated — and I hope you will be as well.

Have a relaxed and fun day!

Various Things

Wildflower Kadi in the North Carolina Spring…

BEAUTIFUL! Thank you, Eden!

The Wildflowers are half-siblings to the Moonshadows (same mom — Daisy) and aunts/uncles to the Bright Stars (same dad as Claire — Major).

Things are a bit boring for Rosebud these days. It isn’t exactly like watching grass grow — but close…

Don’t feel too sorry for her — she still finds targets for her torment…

Cats and dogs offer interesting life lessons. All the dogs, even puppies, will snuggle with Karma — nobody torments her.

Capella and Karma (2).jpg

Karma exudes a quiet, calm presence and it seems to be contagious. She never runs from the dogs or reacts in sharp ways. If there is anything too wild going on, Karma just doesn’t show up or she simply walks away. Excellent modeling of effective life strategies for dogs — and humans.

Mother dogs are the same. They very rarely react sharply with puppies — if it gets too wild, they walk away.

Puppy Alert!

Capella is indeed chewing small pieces and swallowing them — she is on the Soft Toy Watch List. No stuffies for her or anything soft that can be chewed into small pieces and swallowed. This is not unusual for a puppy — but it can be dangerous so consider removing all soft/chewable toys if you cannot closely supervise.

Happy Spring and Terrific Tuesday to you.
